The Method

How the program works.

Nine modules built around one Master Model.
Each one teaches against your own numbers.

Most owners run their businesses without ever understanding the documents that tell them how those businesses are performing. Not because they do not care, but because nobody walked them through how to do it. The Owner’s Financial Playbook is built to change that.

The program is nine modules and a foundational Module 0. The first half teaches you to read what your business is doing. The second half teaches you to plan, decide, and measure value going forward.

Module 0

Know Your Financial Documents

In this module:
  • The three financial statements every owner must understand: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
  • What each financial statement measures and how they connect
  • How to load your historical numbers into the Master Model
Module 1

Walking Through a P&L

In this module:
  • What every section of a P&L is telling you
  • The difference between revenue, gross profit, and net income
  • What you can control, what you cannot, and why monthly numbers tell a different story than annual numbers
Module 2

Walking Through a Balance Sheet

In this module:
  • What a balance sheet is and why it is different from a P&L
  • How to read assets, liabilities, and equity, and why the document always balances
  • What the current ratio is and how to use it to do a simple business health check
Module 3

Margins and What They Mean

In this module:
  • What a margin is and why it is more useful than looking at numbers alone
  • How to calculate gross, operating, and net margins, and what each one tells you
  • How to use margins over time to spot trends and benchmark against your industry
Module 4

Cash, Timing, and Terms

In this module:
  • Why a profitable business can still feel cash strapped, and where cash gets stuck
  • The difference between accrual and cash accounting, and how to read your cash flow statement
  • How to use seasonality and payment terms to manage cash deliberately
Module 5

The Power of Leverage

In this module:
  • How to think about leverage as a tool rather than a threat
  • What a line of credit is and what SBA loans are designed to do
  • How to model the impact of debt on your cash position before taking it on
Module 6

Your Budget

In this module:
  • How to build a 12 month budget from three years of historical data
  • How to use driver-based assumptions to adjust revenue, margins, and operating expenses
  • How to make sure every decision in your budget is one you are willing to execute
Module 7

Your Monthly Management Report

In this module:
  • The four components of a monthly management report: revenue, expenses, cash, and pipeline
  • How to build a 6 month forward looking cash projection
  • The review sequence that turns the report into a living tool
Module 8

Your Decision Framework

In this module:
  • Why thinking comes before the math, and how to map every consequence on paper first
  • How to model the most common decisions: hiring, pricing, new products, capacity, and exit versus hold
  • How to stress test every scenario and read the output with confidence
Module 9

What Is Your Business Actually Worth?

In this module:
  • What enterprise value is, what EBITDA is, and how Adjusted EBITDA actually drives your valuation
  • How valuation multiples work and what drives yours up or down
  • How to calculate your valuation range and what to do about the gap between today and what is possible

This is where you start.

The Owner’s Financial Playbook is open for enrollment. Nine modules. One Master Model. Built from your own data.
